With 5 days to go, we are pleased to announce that we have raised $7976 so far towards our goal of $10,000 every dollar of which will be matched through a generous grant from True Organic Products, Inc.  Now we need YOUR help to push us over the top!

Give today through our website or let us know if you want to mail in a check so we can track our total by November 24th. Together, we can maximize our resources to prevent human trafficking!

It has been an action-packed first month for me here at Central Valley Justice Coalition and I have been humbled and encouraged by the support I’ve received from colleagues, family and friends.

From cycling through the rural back roads to presenting at West Fresno Ministerial Alliance, it has already been a wild ride and I look forward to what God has in store for the Justice Coalition.

Thankful and full of hope,

Ryan Townsend, Executive Director

I found this image online last week as I was looking for something to show my gratitude to the hundreds of people who are participating in Freedom Sunday this month.  Though it may not be Fresno, I felt it accurately reflects the love we have for our city and the people in it.

Thank you for partnering with us.

In sharing with churches about Human Trafficking in Fresno, I’m drawn to the incident in Luke 7 where Jesus is anointed by the woman. It’s such a beautiful display of love for her savior after realizing how much debt had been paid… a proclamation of freedom and an act of true love! (Read it here.) To know your debt has been paid is the most freeing experience of all! Nothing can hold you back anymore! Think of a time when you were forgiven, when your life was spared, when grace overcame and all you could do was say “Thank You Jesus”…

She poured out her most valuable possession and risked being criticized by those around her because she had the FREEDOM that only Christ can bring to LOVE him more than anything…

Jesus says,  “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet.  Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

Oh to be the “sinful woman” at Jesus feet. To understand how much has been forgiven and how free I really am because of God’s great love for us… oh to have that repeated throughout our city streets and churches and brothels and night clubs in Fresno… in the hearts of men and women on the streets… among the trafficked and the saved…

May you know the freedom of forgiveness today and understand how much you are truly loved.

Happy Thanksgiving! We at CVJC have a long list of thanks and praise to offer up to God this year! We hope and pray that whatever your circumstances, you also are experiencing great joy and gratitude this week.

We are beyond thankful for each of you as our partners, and for the amazing faith communities that have embraced this justice journey with us.

We invite you to attend one of our two Freedom Sunday Trainings on January 6th and 8th! If you haven’t participated in Freedom Sunday as a faith community, please join us this year as we observe it together in the Central Valley on February 1, 2015. Freedom Sunday is a day for believers and communities to offer prayer and worship on behalf of those enslaved. It’s a perfect opportunity to learn more about and respond to human trafficking on a local level.

Our trainings in January prepare you to lead a 5-minute focus on human trafficking at your place of worship. We provide resources, walk you through a “Freedom Sunday focus”, and present a drama. Please note the RSVP date! (If you miss the deadline, please email us to see if there’s still space.) Learn more here…and hope to see you in January!

Let’s be honest. for many of us in the USA, as Christians (or just as humans, really), boredom is one of our biggest issues. Boredom is a surface level issue for larger problems, deeply rooted in our lives. We are bored with church. Bored with all the causes fighting for our attention and our cash. Tired of the normality of routine.

I suggest what we really crave is the Supernatural. Our obsession with superheros, the miraculous, our tendency to be addicted to elements that enhance our ‘normal’ experience….we want something more.

That’s because we were created for more!

For us at CVJC , it’s nothing short of a miracle when someone is set free from the modern day forms of slavery called labor and sex trafficking. When the addict says YES to a new life. When the “average Christian” sacrifices in serious ways to financially support our group, or gives hours of his time to further the mission.

“When you look around at our Christian communities today, what do you see in our handling of money and possessions that can only be explained by the supernatural work of God?” (Larry Alcorn) Money and possessions enslave us! When we release them to God’s purposes, we actually further the potential for supernatural working of the Holy Spirit. When we let go of our power, it releases God’s power.

We have choices to make, each day.  Will we spend money on items that we know are probably as cheap as they are because of those exploited in majority world countries? Will we open our eyes to what happens to our brothers and sisters on a global level? Will we take time to truly see someone – and act on their behalf – in our own city?

Our prayer is that you take a step of faith TODAY. We can share story after story about how your financial support brings TRANSFORMATION and HOPE to others. Will you join us?
